The ACT Exam: Not Quite the SAT But Pretty Close

While many students realize the importance that standardized tests play in the college admissions process, many students think that the only thing that matters on a college application as for as standardized tests go is the notorious SAT exam, but that is not necessarily the truth. The ACT exam is given in different areas of the United States as well, and it is also the type of thing that college entrance officials want to see on the college application. While many people choose to take both exams, it is not completely necessary to do so and for this reason it is important to prepare for the ACT exam just as one would prepare for the SAT exam, although they are different exams.

About the ACT

The ACT exam is quite similar to the SAT exam, although they are proctored and administered by different companies. They do share some very similar characteristics, so those that know something about the SAT exam probably know a lot about the ACT exam as well.

The ACT test is a timed exam that is broken up into several parts. The various fixes to the act exam are: mathematics, English, reading, and science. Also, there is an optional writing section to the ACT exam that many students take as it is highly recommended for the college admissions process.

What It Grades

The ACT exam grades the level of knowledge that college students have obtained thus far in their educational development. While many people do not think that it is okay to not get a perfect score on the various sections of their ACT exam, it is not designed to catch those students out there that know everything, just to gauge what you do know and your potential of working in a college environment taking more difficult tests than you might already be used to.

Be Prepared

The ACT exam can be pretty intimidating; it is just important that you be as prepared as you can possibly be. Check out a few books, take an ACT preparatory course, read up on the subject on the internet-these are all things that you can do to help your chances. Get as acclimated with the test format as you possibly can, and you will definitely increase your chances of passing the test with flying colors. Being prepared is the best way to do well on the test, outside of studying and being familiar with the test material.

Don't let the ACT exam intimidate you. You are allowed to take it more than once if need be, and you can pick the better score to send off to the colleges of your choice.
