Using Your High School Years to Build a Successful Future
Many say that high school years are the most formative years of a child's life. High school years are the years that a child spends before becoming an adult, preparing themselves for college or the workforce or whatever else the future may hold them. High school is the last stop before the real world, and so it is important for students to use their high school years to the best of their advantage before experiencing the first real rude awakening of their lives. Students who do well in high school are bound to do better in college, and those who put themselves on the fast track to college as soon as I set foot on to a high school campus are that much more likely to attend college, eventually bringing home a degree.
Grade Point Average
One of the things that colleges look at on college applications are good grades than a prospective student had during their high school years. Grade point average is a great deal of blood factors college entrance committees use to decide who is going to be accepted to the institution and who is not, along with test scores, extracurricular activities, and other things of that nature. Of course college entrance committees are looking for a well-rounded student, but they are also looking for students who have demonstrated that they know how to Excel; after all, no college in the right mind wants a student that is just going to fail and that has a proven track record of doing so.
Advanced Placement and Honors Classes
Advanced placement and honors classes are important to college entrance committees for more than one reason. Not only do they help to boost grade point average a bit higher than regular classes, but they have been known to better prepare students for what it is like in college. This has to do you course load, course material, and a variety of other things. Students who take advanced placement and honors classes whenever they are available and a much better chance of being accepted to the school of their choice.
Extracurricular Activities
Believe it or not, involvement in sports and campus activities are a vital part of any college application. College entrance officials look for students who are well-rounded in every way, and who will have something useful to bring to the table. For this reason, students who have taken part in certain sports, chaired or been a part of certain campus clubs or organizations, or taken the time to volunteer in their local community have a much higher chance of being accepted into school and students who focused solely on grades.
Using your high school years to expand your horizons is an important part of becoming a functional and successful adult. Make sure that you use your high school years to the best of your advantage in order to have the best chance of getting into the school that you wish to attend.
