Working With Your High School Counselor
Students who go to college straight out of high school have an advantage that older first year college students do not, and that is the support of the staff at their high school. There is nothing more that a high school teacher, principal, or even janitor likes to see than a college bound high school student and people will do any and everything they can to help high school students succeed and make it to college.
Your high school counselor is one of the best friends you can have in high school and, if you put them to work early enough they can greatly enhance your chances of getting into the college of your choice when the time comes to make that application. High school counselors may have a hand in discipline if and when that time rolls around, but they have the best interests of every student at heart and will do everything they can to the best of their ability in order to help their students go far in life. A high school counselor can offer many services and help in more than one way.

High school can be stressful, and many times it can seem like parents just don't want to understand. Between grades, boyfriends and girlfriends, the pressure to go to college, peer pressure, and a variety of other things high school can weigh in a lot on your mind. College counselors are well versed in how to go about helping students to sort these issues out to the best of their ability.

It is important to modify your school schedule in order to reflect what the college entrance officials want to see on your application, as far as selected course offerings and grades. Your high school counselor is well-versed in with each and every one of the local universities requires for admission, and they have access to information about the schools that they are not well versed in. Certain schools require a certain number of years of English or writing, foreign language, in our class, certain number of years of math, and a variety of other things. Your high school counselor can provide you with all of this information and more about what your desired college wants to see.
Help With the Application Process
High school counselors know everything that there is to know about the college application process, and they can help you with it all, whether it be preparing for standardized tests, filling out the application or any other of a number of things. Whatever info you need, they have it. After all, it's their job!
