College Applications: When Is Enough, Enough?

Applying for college can be a stressful process; taking the right tests at the right time, filling out application after application and making sure that all of the right information gets sent out to the right institution. The college application process can be enough to drive a person crazy, and for what? Not getting accepted seems to be the fear that many students have, which can spur a whole whirlwind of applications sent every which way. Some things to know about filling out college applications:

Apply to a Range of Schools

Everyone should makes sure to apply to schools that they know they will get into and schools that they hope they will get into. You never know until you try, and for those who have better grades and test scores it is important to go for the 'reaching' school as well as the 'safety' school. If you are accepted to both, you know which one you will choose!

The More You Fill Out-the More Likely You Are to Get In

College applications are not like credit card applications; applying to too many schools does not decrease your likelihood of getting into one, so obviously the more applications that you fill out and send in to a diverse range of schools in different areas and of different calibers, the more of chance you have of getting accepted to one of the ones you want.

Also, applying to more than one school can help you to have a better selection to choose from when it comes time to make that choice.

College Applications Usually Have a Fee

Although there doesn't have to be a limit to how many applications you can fill out for school, keep in mind that most of the schools that re worth your time are going to require an application fee to apply. You might be able to get an application fee waiver from your school career center or from the school itself, but even those are restricted to only a certain amount allowed per student. A good rule of thumb is: don't fill out more college applications than you can afford. If you have run out of funding to send in applications, chances are you have submitted quite enough.

Have a Reaching School and a Safety School

Everybody needs a safety net, and the same goes with school. You need to have enough of each, both schools that you may not get into and schools that you know you will. This way, you always have the pleasantries of receiving an acceptance in the mail when you have just received a rejection letter in the mail.

Don't fill out more college applications than you can afford, in both time and monetary resources. If you are spending all day, all weekend, and all year-preparing your college applications, essays, and letters then chances are you are spending too much time on this issue. Use your time wisely and devote it to submitting brilliant applications to the schools you really want to attend.
