College Application Requirements and Checklist: What You Must Have
There are many components to a college application; specialty schools like colleges for art and design obviously require extra components that take a student above and beyond the normal call of duty, but the college application does have some basic components that each and every student should be prepared for and know to expect, whether it be up front at the time of the original application or down the road.
The Obvious-the Applications
College applications require a certain amount of information that you must have on hand. Full name, date, social security number, applicable ID numbers and things of that nature are all required and must be included.
Personal Essay or Personal Statement
Whether it is on a topic of your choice or the reasons why you would be an asset to their educational program, most schools require a personal statement from all prospective applicants to their school. The personal essay must be semi-profound at least and well written with little to no grammatical errors or spelling errors. Present yourself and your educational and academic abilities in the best light possible; your personal statement can really help you to do this.
Letters of Recommendation
While most schools require two or three, it is important to have letters of recommendation from good people, who have some education under their belt and can best speak to your knowledge, abilities, and future in college. It is best to get letters of recommendation from people who won't have to lie on your behalf, and honestly have good things to say about you, your academic ability, and how promising your academic future will be.
Slides or Demos
Slides or demos are only required for art students or music students, but those who are applying under these majors must have these items available. Demo tapes or CDs are required for those who want to be admitted into a school of music or dance, and slides of art projects and work should be submitted for those students who want to be accepted to art school. Slides and demos are not required by students of every major, just some of them but for those who know they will have to submit them they should definitely have them on hand and ready.
There are some essential components to any college application, but it is important to be prepared and have the various pieces ready to go as soon as possible.
